The Challenge
A telecom company and their AmLaw 100 outside counsel faced the challenge of reviewing 165K images in a recent matter. Images pose a challenge in eDiscovery document review because they often lack the necessary context and metadata, making manual review time-consuming and resource-intensive. Not reviewing images comes with risk of missing sensitive or responsive content.
The Solution
In collaboration with outside counsel, Lighthouse developed a solution to analyze images using GenAI. This novel approach used the power of GPT to deliver searchable captions, themes, and context groupings of the images in Relativity. Counsel then reviewed samples of the categories and determined the level of scrutiny required for each group, ultimately promoting 37K of the 165K images to review.
Results
The solution reduced the volume of images requiring manual review by almost 80%, significantly improving the efficiency of image review while ensuring the identification and appropriate handling of responsive or sensitive content. The client was so happy with the results that they have since used this workflow on subsequent matters.
